These old cottages (seen here in the late 1890s) are still standing at the north end of the grounds of Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, Maryland. The distinctive covered walkway that connects the various buildings can be spotted in the middle section of the above photograph. Perhaps in a nod to19th-century sensibilities, the "Men's Group" cottages were built as far away as possible from the "Women's Group" cottages, which, also still extant, are at the opposite end of Springfield's very large campus.
