My great aunt was sent to Larned State Hospital in 1934, shortly after my great grandmother passed away. My grandfather and grandmother couldn't continue to take care of her. She died there in 1958. Since I am a genealogist, I tried finding records at Larned without any success. I called them and they couldn't help me other than to tell me when she was there. So - - I knew that in order for her to be admitted, there had to be a legal document. So I ordered her records from the Butler County, KS courthouse. That told me most of what I had wanted to know. I was about 14 when she died. I never knew her and never knew she was institutionalized until just a few years ago when I found some information about her. I wish I had just one picture she might have made while there. Or a picture of her when there. She grew up in a very privileged home and my great grandparents included her in everything they did. They were very good to her. I have many pictures of her before she went to Larned and probably good I don't have any from when she was there. Very sad but I am so glad I ordered the documents. I also have her obituary.
