History[edit]

The Warren G. Murray Developmental Center is a residential facility capable of providing needed support and habilitation training for up to 325 persons who have a broad spectrum of individual behavioral and medical needs. Originally opening in 1964, it is located on 120 acres of land on the west side of Centralia, in Clinton County.

The mission of Murray Center is to consistently and respectfully provide quality person-centered supports and services to people with developmental disabilities to assist them in achieving optimal health, independence and happiness and to develop or maintain family and community involvement to the maximum extent possible. The end goal is to provide a setting that allows the person to live in the most integrated setting to meet their specific needs. Each individual resident provides the focus for the services provided, keeping in mind the personal choices, values and goals of individuals being serviced. Supports and services are made available according to needs indicated through comprehensive assessments.

The campus includes 13 major buildings, seven of which are residential cottages capable of accommodating from 60 to 64 residents each. There are four living units in each residential building. The cottages are certified as Intermediate Care Facilities for the Developmentally Disabled (ICFDD). Each cottage has units with a day area, dining room, dietary, nurse's station and laundry. The cottages are interconnected with walking paths for access to the Community building, which provides on-site activities during the day and evenings. Additionally, the community building has a Bistro where the individuals are trained in a setting for transition into an occupation in the community. Murray individuals also attend an off campus workshop in the community. The campus also has a main dietary, mechanical building, boiler house and clothing area. The Center sits in a circular drive around the exterior of the campus.
