|Body= In 1883 discussions were made concerning opening a [[Logansport State Hospital|state hospital]] since the state's only mental facility in Indianapolis had become overcrowded. A 160 acre farm was purchased in October 1883 and an additional 121 adjoining acres were donated by the citizens of Cass County.
