That is a good question. I have not heard a word about it for a long time now.

The state sold it to a coal company.

After this month I heard security and physical crews were done, so I guess this is when the state hands over control.

Lord knows what will happen to the buildings. Im guessing at best be abandoned, at worst demolished.

Wow... a coal company?? I don't see a coal company having any use for the existing buildings. I'd say they are pretty much done. I wonder if their plan is to mine the property?

Money from the sale of Mayview State Hospital, however, returned to the Pittsburgh mental health community because of a deal reached after a year of hearings and lobbying by advocates there.

I heard it's in the process of being demolished, not physically but like paper work preperations and such.
it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.

It was sold to the Aloe Brothers of Mt. Washington for 505K (owners of aloe brothers, LLC.)/ They are majority share holders in Imperial Coal Co., Shenango Inc., and Quality Aggregates. Supposedly they have a redevelopment plan in the works for the site, but I can't find any plans on it. They are talking about making it into a mixed industrial/ light commercial use property. The sales deal was for 150 acres of land and the buildings on Mayviews property. more info on it can be found here. http://www.senatorpippy.com/mayview/news.htm <---The site is the newsletter for the Mayview land reuse task force. There is nothing exceptional on the site though, nor much of anything that I can find on the land reuse proposal. There really isn't even much of a profile for the ALOE Brothers, LLC., but the redevelopment may be happening under the assistance of any of several companies they are partial owners of. I'll try and research it more, but it doesn't appear anything has been done with the property as yet.

The sale price seems a pittance for 150 acres of land and buildings. Especially when you figure in historic value of the buildings.

More history on sites prior locations and grave sites can be found here [1]

A little more research on the companies the Aloe brothers own or are part of:

http://www.senatorpippy.com/mayview/PDF/2010/Agreement-of-Sale.pdf

The agreement falls under Pennsylvania's right to know law and at very bottom is a copy of the redevelopment plan. There are three major subdivisions of the property but the whole things looks lofty and time consuming. Mostly the subdivision seems to break down what will be used for certain projects and what is set aside as easement to access the site. L Robert Kimball and Associates, Inc., project number 09-1300-0243 wrote up the divisions but it is all in survey speak and Greek to me. Maybe someone else can guess what it means. There was some lofty backing of this sale too, if you search the L Robert Kimball and Associates, Inc project number State Senator Pippy, who headed the redevelopment and reuse project committee and published the actions on Mayviews property on his site, appears to have help push legislation to sell the site through.

Quality Aggregates of Pennsylvania is a very weird company to research. It appears they specialize in rock aggregate for use in construction, road ways and water restoration projects, but their business pages only direct you to Aquascapes, a subsidiary of quality aggregates. Aquascapes works with a number of agencies on restoration of waterways, marshes, and the like, but there is not much real information on their parent companies business

Shenango is a subsidiary of DTE energy that specialized in the production of furnace coke, coke breeze, coal tar, light oil, and ammonium sulfate.

Imperial coal is another odd shell of a shell looking company. They ran several historic bituminous coal mines in PA and West Virginia. It was also known as the Imperial Smokeless Coal Co. and Imperial Coal and Construction Co. Prior to 1919 it was Diamond Smokeless Coal Company. Beyond some general history and legal issues from the 1920-1960’s and 70’s there is little on the company. Historical sites associated with their mining do have a website listed above, but little information.

Dickson Mine, Imperial, Allegheny Co., PA
Montours Mine (Imperial Mine), Allegheny Co., PA

Another interesting part of the sale order; the aloe brothers must have foreign investors or be from another country. Part of the sale order requires compliance with Executive order 13224 which deals with the sales of items and property to extra-national people or entities. Investigation showing that they have not or do not support terrorism or terrorist organizations of the Aloes and anyone that might gain from the sales of the property was written into the sales contract.

Other than that and some odds state and federal rules, the only requirements in the contract are that no part of the property may be used for a "licensed facility, as defined by 4 Pa.C.S. & 1103" (this law has to do with gaming I guess) and easements of 50 feet for the transportation wetland mitigation sites 1 and 2 found on the property must be maintained. The funny part of that is one of Aloes companies is part of wetland mitigation projects.

http://www.srwc.org/projects/goffstation.php <--- Information on the reclamation project they are working can be found here. There are several companies working on different projects.
