Any idea who I could contact to see if records for patients/clients still exist from this institution which is now closed? My uncle lived there for a good number of years and I'd like to find out his official diagnosis. This is regarding John Francis Lindsay who diedat that facility in the early 1960's.

Records appear to have been transferred to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital which is an affiliate of Rochester General health system, but I am not completely sure on this. Let me double check that and I will try to get back and give you contact information.

Sorry, is this the same person as the original poster? Due to fairly strict HIPAA laws it is very hard to get medical records for family unless you are a power of attorney or can show medical cause for your doctor to request them. Most of the records from this time period would be covered by HIPAA rules even if the patient is deceased. Your best bet is to post more information on the facility and we can make some suggestions on how to get the records or who to contact, but unfortunately, we cannot usually get the records for you. You may be able to get them from the NEW York Department of Mental Health and Hygiene. http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/home/home.shtml

This is another guest interested in finding out more about this facility for my senior paper. I don't nessacarilly want individual patient information, just basics of what happened and why. Not to who. Any possible links or contacts would be greatly appreciated.

Your brother is listed as buried in that cemetery, but no plot or grave number, not unusual unfortunately. He is listed on the entries for that cemetery on findagrave. Here is a map that gives the location of the cemetery Cemetery Map.
