| I have a great-grandmother that apparently went there around 1908-1910? Died there I guess, my family doesn't know much else. Did they have their own cemetery? Is it impossible to get records that old or with HIPPA? Experts out there on this institution?

Unfortunately the institution shut down in 1990. In 1995 about half of the building was rebuilt and turn into a correctional institution. My guess would be the records should be available to some extent. The death records and much of the information from someone that died that long ago was probably released to the state health department. I would start by contacting the state department of mental health [1] this link will take you to their page for publicly available records. My guess is beyond these, there will not be much left of the records for when she was actually at the facility, nor will you have an easy time accessing treatment records from that era. Often records disappear as facilities close and the new HIPAA rules tend to make acquiring records for mental health patients very hard.
I would not consider myself an expert in the area, but if I can help you with something more specifc please leave me a pm and I will do what I can.
