In the closed admin channel, a bland conversation about the news archive maintenance veered off topic sadly by me. I had made a comment about Squad's new Avatar. Well I think the conversation is good enough to bring it out for general comments. So I've moved it out here into the Gossip Area.

So the rest of the conversation from where I split it off starts below this post:

Ah ok. I never got into those alien shows in the History Channel. (Man I miss the days when the History Channel actually showed nothing but history shows.)

lol! Yeah, I used to watch Modern Marvels almost nonstop. Btw, South Park also noticed that History Channel isn't what it used to be... http://www.hulu.com/watch/302095/south-park-a-history-channel-thanksgiving#s-p1-so-i1

Thank God somebody else realizes how much it has changed. I used to watch modern marvels, histories mysteries, histories lost and found, etc, nonstop. Now its just this nonsense and ice road truckers and loggers. I honestly don't think I would be nearly as intelligent now if it were not for the history channel. It's a shame.

And the latest ice road trucker show is in a country with no snow or ice, WTF? I cant think of anything good worth watching there anymore. I work with a guy that is obsessed with the fake pawn show. I thought the avatar was perfect, not sure what for though!

I do like the "fake" pawn show because of the history presented in it and the objects presented in the show. Plus, it's much much better then the "real" pawn show on TruTV. (A.K.A. Hardcore Pawn) Heck, I like the one episode where someone tried to sell an old ECT machine.

The other show that I've enjoyed watching is Auction Kings for the same reason as Pawn Stars.

I will admit to watching Ice Road Truckers and Pawn Stars. IRT is ok, but they try and put too much drama into places that it isn't. I pretty much fast forward 5-10 seconds past each commercial break to avoid said fake drama. It's not a show I would care about though if it went away. I'm all for the old History Channel.

Modern Marvels new season is on what they call H2 now. Sucks because H2 isn't in HD. But I have not really been impressed with any of this seasons episodes anyway.

For the life of me I cannot think of the name of the history channel show, but back in the day they used to have a series that profiled history of historic prisons like Sing Sing, Levenworth, Eastern States, etc. I loved that series. Sadly they'll never show it again nor will they release it in anything but VHS format.

Too bad they won't show history shows like that but they show alien history and crazy truckers on a disused "death road!"

Was it the modern marvels special on prisons? I think I remember that.

But yeah, they have pretty much abandoned real history for BS. Its sad because honestly I learned a ton from the history channel.

No, the series spent one show completely on one prison. I just found the name of the series, it was called: "The Big House" I loved that show. Modern Marvels was cool, but I liked Histories Mysteries and that Wild West show too.

Wild West Tech? I loved that show!

Yeah, isn't it pathetic how they try and pretend that the Bolivian death road is still the only way to get around when a modern road was actually built a while ago? They are the only ones on the road for freak sake.

Haha, glad you guys had noticed too. I think I've seen all the Modern Marvels shows so I don't record them anymore. I actually watched and like the early episodes of the Ancient Aliens show when it was more in tune with Chariots of the Gods and what not. Now they are streching it out so far it's almost funny (Zombies and Aliens, Sea Monsters and Aliens). All in all it's a real shame. I just wish my cable provider has channels like H2 and the Military Channel on the regular package cause I'm not paying extra for them!

I miss that one too, narrated by Paul Sorvino! I had been told they considered doing some state hospitals, probably ones converted into correctional facilities, but the show ended before that went anywhere.

As for Modern Marvels, I stopped watching when one of the topics was water. I'm not making that up!

I don't watch History Channel anymore. Right when I started getting interested in history, the channel completely changed. It's like that for a lot of other channels too. MTV is trash, and it isn't even about music anymore. I've been impressed with Travel Channel for keeping the basis on their shows (although I think Man vs. Food should be on a food network). Honestly, most of the channels on TV aren't worth watching anymore except for TCM and Travel Channel..
