I'm sure they're planning on demo'ing this place ASAP. I've been trying to scan the Worcester Telegram for any news but have yet to see anything.
Anyone know anything as far as a timeline for the demo, or if anything will be salvaged?

I just updated my own question!
I called No'Easter Salvage (they did Metro, Northampton, and Danvers) about Worcester and they said they didn't know about it yet but thanked me for the heads up and said they'd look into it, as they'd love to be involved.

There was news on GoLocalWorcester.com that Ethan (kirkbridebuildings.com) found. I'll post it here and in the news. It is a bit confusing since the preservation group is claiming it as a victory but sounds like it will be demolished then a replica will be built. Not sure if that's a victory but they say “We feel like this is the best scenario we could have come up with, given that the state said it would cost $30 million to restore the whole original structure,” said Packard. I thought the best scenario would've been no demolition, color me confused! Almost sounds like a failure.

| I've heard of past situations with a simular outcome. What they did in those situations was save the building materials and bits of architectural bits unique to the structure. Then reuse and reassemble it all when rebuilding the structure. One common thing I've seen when doing this was the introduction of an iron framework that wasn't present when the original building was constructed.

| I think it's so stupid that they aren't gonna build a full replica, and is only replicating the clocktower and not the entire Admin. LAME!!!

| Yeah, what a bunch of stupid bullshit. I hope the person who decided it had to be torn down gets in a car accident. I'm not happy.

| I could rant for an hour on this failure, but it's pointless now. I still say, as much interest as there was, more could've been done. Probably time to remove the "Preservation Alert" from the main page!

Indeed.
Another piece of our history lost to "progress".

| To look at the bright side of things at least the "progress" in question is a new mental healthcare facility and not appartments (Danvers), a Walmart (Spencer/Dixmont), or an open field (Northampton)!

| I still think treatment would be better in a Kirkbride with moral treatment vs in whatever building that is with neuroleptic drugs.

IDK i think what they did with Danvers was pretty good, i know they chopped off most of the wings(which is what i hear people complain about the most). But the exterior restoration work they did is superb, it looks exactly how it did when it was first built (minus the chopped wings). And then I heard people complain about it's use and how it was gutted, but in today's modern day a use for an old asylum interior is not useful.
What they did with Traverse City is of course the best redevelopment of an hospital, but i think Danvers isn't half bad.

PD you make some really good points. The sad fact is that we as "Kirkbride Fans" are just going to have to learn to live with very low expectations. The design, layout, and floor plan of Kirkbrides is extremely outdated and pretty much useless in the present day.
As you mentioned the situation at Travers City is probably the best. There are also some hospitals that I'd classify as "works in progress" like Buffalo, Weston, Fergus Falls, and St. Elizabeths where it will be very interesting to see how the final product turns out. Other than that we'll just have to deal with the high mortality rate of original Kirkbrides and keep them alive with photos, old post cards, and internet sites like this one.

Is that the dildo they are going to use to screw their history?
Oh, thats the new tower they want to build
So why are they tearing it down again? its a danger to the road in to the hospital or something? How hard would it be to just build a road further away? Im sure cheaper too.

I think the official reason is they're worrid about "airborne asbestos" particles drifting over to the new place.
