I changed London Psychiatric Hospital to a Kirkbride from cottage plan. I think it had been discussed on the old forum maybe, but I finally found enough that shows it as a Kirkbride, although I cant find out when it was demolished. Most of the information I found was at this site [1], but unfortunately doesn't give a timeline on the building. If anyone thinks it should have a different category, feel free to bring it up.

Looks right to me. I knew that they had dabbled in the Kirkbride design with maybe a couple hospitals. But the design never fully caught on over there. To them, they saw the Kirkbride plan as just as a modification of their Corridor Plan but not really an improvement. Plus, while the Kirbride plan was all the rage in American psychiatric institutions, England had already been dabbling with the Pavilion Plan. Though, I thought I heard that they did like certain aspects of the Kirkbrides and use those bits, plus some stuff from the Pavilions, to create the Echelon Plan.
Edit: Now that I look at this, I thought you meant London UK and that's what my comment was on. As far as Canada, I'm not so sure. But I still agree with you assigning this as a Kirkbride. (I missed the Ont part, sorry! )

| The main building was torn down in 1975 but parts of it are still on the grounds of the current london hospital. http://explorationproject.blogspot.com/2009/02/london-asylum-for-insane.html there is some current-ish photo's here. There is also a gallery of older interior pics too (not sure it is still working, my work computer won't open the picasa page but it may be out software).

| For some reason I haven't been able to come up with much else, thanks for the link Evil. I wasn't able to find a demo date anywhere else.

According to "The institutional care of the insane in the United States and Canada, Volume 4" it was built on the echelon plan. Now I am not an expert on the UK plans but I usually understood the echelon plan to be individual pavillions usually connected by small connectors off a main hallway that comes off the administration.
This looks like though they may have called it an echelon the influence of the US kirkbride plan probably have a considerable influence on the design, as it resembles a kirkbride more than any echelon plan hospital I have seen.

That's my understanding of the echelon plan too. I personally don't see how they can say the echelon plan had an influence over the asylum design. But then again there may be something interior wise that we might not see. I also agree that there is a strong resemblance to the Kirkbride plan.
