The title of this article may seem a bit misleading if you're familiar with what's usually found in old hospitals. The discovery isn't all that surprising, but they're still interesting.

I'd love to take a look at some of the artifacts the curator can't identify.

It's amazing some of the things that are found at the older state hospitals, unfortunately it makes you wonder how much is lost when there is a demolition.

A lot of states completely cleaned out everything and other state hospitals left a lot of stuff. I know people at Weston that told me they took everything up to the old farm and burned everything. I've also heard stories about employees at various hospitals saying they put records, old equipment, etc. into unused tunnels and sealing them off.

Whenever I go to an old hospital I am always anxious to look in the basement and attic. I find they are always the last place to get any attention and the first places they shove old equipment and records.

Even in places otherwise modernized and cleared out I have found old forgotten items lying around old rooms in the basement.

Patient in the mid 1960"s
Hi I was a patient at Traverse City also. My father died when I was 11 and my mother was left with three girls to take care of. She never liked me because I was not born a boy anyway so she sent me away. I was a ward of the courts cause I was in alot of foster homes and the childrens home. The social worker I had told my mother that I did not belong in these places and that I needed to be home. I was taken out of my home because I was beat and yelled at so terriably bad. I was scared to death of my mom. When she found out she could sign me into Traverse city and leave me there, she did. I was happy I was going some where where I would not get beat. Well when I rode up that hudge long driveway to the hospital I was scared sinceless. I remember waiting in a hudge room while I was checked in on ward c. I was about 14 I believe. Oh my gosh, the people scared me to death. That is one memory I will never forget.I* really wish I could find some friends I made there. Can we ever get our own records? How do I hear from any body?

There is a guy on the forums over at www.kirkbridebuildings.com who goes by the name of "ronl", he was there around the same time and I think keeps in touch with others, you should really try to look him up.
