I was looking around for info on this hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Unfortunately not as much as I had hoped but found 2 photos, it's looks like it may have been a Kirkbride. I tried to find some sort of old map or aerial and no luck, so I cant confirm it. Any thoughts or ideas? BTW, I've left the type of plan blank until there's some sort of opinions.

| It could be a Kirkbride. Though if it is a kirk, it has/had a strange center admin. I would want to see some sort of overhead to confirm it s a kirk.

| Nice find! Based solely on the two photos, it certainly resembles a Kirkbride design. It's around the correct time period too.

| The 2 photos do certainly give it a Kirkbride appearance. I spent 2 hours looking on-line for maps for Halifax and found nothing. Apparently Canada wasn't doing the same aerial views as the US back in the day. They did have their version of Sanborn maps but haven't found any of the Halifax area so far. I talked to someone at the city archives who told me that there was a former nurse that might be able to help me, but as usual, she just retired and moved. Hopefully they'll contact me with better information soon.

| "The institution was built on plans suggested by Dr CH Nichols superintendent of the Government Hospital for the Insane at Washington DC of which institution it was a modified copy. The structure was of brick made for the most part on the premises and was designed with wings two and three stories in height the center building being four stories in height."

| Mystery solved, thanks Soldat! The Canadians said they have some photos they will email when they have the time. I'll update the page.
