Joseph Clampitt was my uncle (he was born at or close to 1930), he came from Oxford Mills, Iowa and was placed in the Independence Mental institution when he was young, he also died there and is buried in their cemetery. About 12 years ago my father and I went there to find out about him and find his grave. Unfortunately I can not remember exactly what I saw in in medical files, (at the time they didnt allow you to make copies, so I cant remember like why he was admitted and at what age, I believe he died young like at twenty, and that they had used electro shock treatments. If someone could take a look at the files and give me the actual information then my sisters would be happy. Thanks again

Though we can sometimes connect people with places to look for records, it is often few and far between that we can actually look at the records for a particular patient and would be unethical and outside the scope of this site to post the unredacted records on anyone. Due to changes to records laws, namely HIPAA rules that have become more protective of mental health patients, including the deceased, it may also be harder for you to access the records too I would suggest contacting the facility again to see what help they can offer as I fear no one here will be able to give you the answers you and your sister are seeking.

Looking for information on Frank DePietro or Michael DePietro
Looking for information on either Frank or Michael DePietro. They may have been patients or worked at Dept. of Mental Defectives, Bridgewater, Ma.

This is a link to an article about a person who filed suit over his adjudication as a "mental defective" without trail and placement due to this status at bridgewater. Because of the type of institution Bridgewater was, most records will not be released without a court order or may be sealed as the persons placed there were often juveniles. In some cases people were placed their simply because the family was poor and the kids got picked up for something as simple as being cited for minor offenses too often. The issue you run into is I am not sure what institution would have jurisdiction over records either. There is also some debate because a lot of the records from Bridgewater may have been tied in with some covert Eugenics projects (http://www.bostonmagazine.com/articles/2006/05/the-master-race/ ).

If it were me I would start with the Mass. Department of Mental Health and see what I can find out.
