For at least 10+ years I have SCOURED the internet searching for a genuine Orbitoclast (the surgical tool designed by Dr. Freeman for use in Lobotomies). Never have had a shred of luck. I seach eBay on a weekly basis for "orbitoclast", "lobotomy", and "Walter Freeman".
Well guess what popped up the ONE FREAKING week I forgot to search!!!!!!!!!!!!

Missed a once in a lifetime chance maybe, hopefully not.
On a similar subject there is a guy out there making what he claims to be high quality reproduction of a orbitoclast and surgical hammer set that he's selling on eBay.

| Wow, almost $1,000!! Now I feel like a moron, I walked past one a couple years ago at a antique shop in rural Indiana, it was priced at $300-400, and I thought that was high. Don't lose hope, another will show up. I assume you've been looking places other then ebay?

I'm sorry to hear about that and I feel your pain. I always wish I either had the money or jumped on something when I saw it on ebay.
Just keep your eyes open and another will show up.

| They owner of the shop on Odditites has bought and sold several. I don't know that I have ever seen the hammers for sale as I am not sure they were necessarily anything special. I worked for an antique collector who specialized in old medical stuff. Her husband traded an orbitoclast for for a Vietnam era medical field kit. (At the time they were about equal in price) I can ask around and see if any of the odd collectors I know have one for sale. can't make an promises though.

Please please ask around for me Evilavatar, and Squad if you remember the name of that shop please pass it along. I look all over on the internet for "medical antique" sites for them.
Also, I've know Mike Zohn since before he had the oddities show and he's told me he has never had one, but they always tell me to call every once in a while. One time someone else who answered the phone told me they had sold one before.

| It was in Lowell, IN I'll look for the name. I'd bet the best place to find them is estate auctions from former staff. The hammer does seem like it's not part of the set, as they could use any surgical hammer provided it's teh correct size & weight. I don't want to think of what I missed 10 years ago when a former superintendent of Logansport had his stuff sold. I was told he had tons of photos and other old hospital artifacts.
