Asylum Projects is a community run web site that aims to archive historical and current information on asylums. The archived information within this site includes written histories, images, videos, and related information on asylums across the world.

The term of asylum is applied to not only what is commonly thought of: mental hospitals, but can also be applied to sanitariums, state training schools, reform schools, orphanages, and prisons.

Everyone throughout the United States and the world has in one way or another felt the touch of these institutions. These places have both directly and indirectly affected people and their families. They have shaped peoples lives whether for good or bad and created many popular myths and stories about them. These asylums have and continue to play a major part in today's society.

Anyone and everyone are welcome to use this site and contribute to it. Asylum Projects is run by the community and for the community with the majority of information contained within this site having been contributed by editors.

Asylum Projects encourages people to sign up and help expand the knowledge within the site.
