many local residents believe the fire was set intentionally, as the main building was stone and brick, and actually burnt to the ground. the developer was initially not allowed to change the main facade, due to it's historic status. the fire allowed for more homes to be situated on the property, rather than apartments. this has never, and will probably never be substantiated, but if you ask any local resident, they will tell you that the fire was definitely under some strange circumstances.
