"The Cottage" built in 1888 to provide a more comfortable degree of treatment for patients than otherwise could be afforded in the regular hospital. it provided a more luxurious and home like setting than that of the institution. The rooms were spacious and each had a private parlor and adjoining room for an attendant, as well as gas and a fireplace. The cottage contained its own kitchen, storeroom, and dining area.

The building was designed and its construction overseen by Furness, Evans, and Co. It is likely this building was designed by Frank Furness.
