History

Plans approved in 1883, started accepting patients 5 years later. Originally a Kirkbride plan building was considered, the state scrapped those plans & went with a cottage plan. At it's height, the hospital had over 2,000 patients, 750 staff & 1,335 acres, mostly farmland. Several types of therapy were used at Logansport, including industrial & art therapies. By the 1990s new facilities were being built to replace the aging cottages & most were demolished.
