The Oaklawn School For Girls was the sister school of the  Sockanosset Boys School. It was built in 1880 on 18 acres witch was purchased from Job Wilbur. Located at  the New London Turnpike at what is now Brayton Avenue. The spot was picked because of its distance from the other institutions. The land is now softball fields at Brayton park.
