History

This Hospital was built on land purchased in 1910 by the South Carolina State Hospital in order to deal with is overcrowded conditions. When the campus opened in 1913 it was for Black patients only and opened with the name Palmetto State Hospital.In 1963 the name of the hospital was changed to Crafts-Farrow State Hospital when the hospital shifted its purpose from a mental hospital to a Geriatric hospital. Finally in 1985 the hospital was closed when services were consolidated with the South Carolina State Hospital Campus. Today the facility is used for administrative offices.
