History[edit]
Currently known as the Lakeland Health Care Center, the Walworth county poor farm and insane asylum was built in the 1800's to take care of those people who could not take care of themselves. In 1938 the property was incorporated into the county general hospital and the poor farm and asylum was turned into a home for the aged. In 1962 a new nursing home building was established and the old building was remodeled and converted into the Nursing Annex for the facilities. Lakeland Health Care Center was annexed into the city of Elkhorn in 2003. Currently still in operation the facility is licensed as a 120 bed skilled nursing facility.
