Turkish baths in the Victorian asylum[edit]

Chapter 18 of Victorian Turkish Baths by Malcolm Shifrin (Historic England, 2015, pages 189-200) describes, with illustrations and plans, the building and use of Turkish baths in eight asylums in the Victorian United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Those included are: Cork District Lunatic Asylum (Eglinton); Sussex District Lunatic Asylum, Haywards Heath; Limerick District Lunatic Asylum; Second Middlesex County Asylum, Colney Hatch; North Wales Counties Lunatic Asylum, Denbigh; The Retreat, York; The Holloway Sanatorium, Virginia Water; West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum, Wakefield.
