History
The West Coast Sanatorium opened in 1950 for the treatment of tuberculosis. Within 15 years the advances in diagnostic ability and drug therapy for tuberculosis, reduced drastically the need for beds. The building was then turned over to the Western Memorial Hospital Board, and renamed the Christopher Fisher Division and in turn increased the hospital bed capacity to 377. When the hospital was designated as a regional medical center, the original building became the center of the complex while additions were built around it, and is today the Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
