History
Deer's Head Hospital was established in 1950 with Robert J. Gore, M.D., as Chief Physician and had facilities for 284 patients. Deer’s Head, which serves patients with chronic, complex medical conditions, is licensed for 125 beds, but only 54 were in use in 2019 and it is projected to have just 31 by 2040. The facility also operates a kidney dialysis unit, a skilled nursing unit and leases space for hospice care.
